At home in
Fearrington Village
North
Carolina’s Fearrington Village is a
unique community located on farmland dating back to the 1700s, near
Chapel Hill.
Fearrington Village blends a planned residential
commun ity
with lodging, dining, shopping, and gardens.
A cultural feature of Fearrington is
the presence of a variety of folk art works, such as the large
whirligigs at the intersection of Village Way and Highway 15/501. Each
February, a major Folk Art Festival is held, which attracts well known
Folk Artists and visitors from all around the region.
Take the first right turn off Village Way, and you are in the commercial
center. Here you will find the book store, several restaurants, and
Fearrington’s flagship shop, The Dovecote. This is a nature-inspired
home and garde
n gift shop, celebrating the country village lifestyle of the community.
The
dovecote has a selection of beautiful jewelry, decorative accents,
elegant furniture pieces and indulgent items.

Contiguous
with the Dovecote, is the Belted Goat, which offers a fine selection of
coffee, wine, cheese, and hand-made chocolate truffles, breakfast
pastries and desserts from The Fearrington House Restaurant.
There
are approximately 2,094 residents in Fearrington Village and adjacent
retirement center Galloway Ridge.
According
to a recent analysis[1],
there are 1240 households, 62% of which have two persons.
Approximately 70% are over 65 years old. Most people in the
community characterize it as a neighborly place. Fearrington is a well
connected community -- The majority of households have at least one email
address. In addition to Fearrington residents, visitors to the Dovecote
come from up to one hour away. They come to the village for special
events, such as the Folk Art Festival, garden events, corporate
meetings, weddings, and to stay in the Fearrington Inn. About 75 to 100
people visit the Dovecote each week day, more on the weekends. The
average visitor is from 45 to 54 years old. Many come in family groups,
including children.
