WATER AEROBICS PROGRAM
The Swim and Croquet water aerobics classes continue to be our most successful program. This highly-popular physical fitness activity will again be offered in 2008. There is no charge for the program.
Melissa Carter will again conduct the PEP (Pool Exercise Program) water aerobics sessions. Melissa is a highly qualified professional instructor who holds water aerobics classes throughout the year at a number of locations in the area.
Maggie Frantz and Jim Dixon will again conduct the Aquasize program.
PEP is a vigorous program that will help the participant increase and maintain joint flexibility, strengthen and tone muscles, and increase endurance. Exercises are performed in the water at chest level. It is an ideal class for people of all fitness levels; non-swimmers are Welcome.
Aquasize is an orchestrated program, on tape, that if followed will give you a well-rounded water exercise program from warm-up to cool-down.
To enroll in either the PEP or Aquasize program, two forms are required. The Medical Approval for Exercise and Activities and the Release and Indemnity Agreement. The completed forms should be returned to Chuck Giardino at 647 Spindlewood or the Swim & Croquet mailbox at the Gathering Place kiosk. Forms will be available at all mail kiosks in the village.

CROQUET
AT FEARRINGTON
The
croquet lawn at the Club is maintained and open for play year round,
dependent upon the weather. Mallets,
balls and clips are available in the equipment cabinet by the steps to
the court.
There
are many different types of croquet games that can be played.
The one that most people know from childhood is known as BACKYARD
CROQUET and is played with nine wire wickets and two stakes. This equipment is available in the cabinet and can be
substituted for the wickets and stakes on one of our two croquet courts.
These wickets should be returned to the cabinet after play and
the original wickets re-installed.
Adult
beginners are often taught the game of GOLF
CROQUET which uses a court set up with six wickets and one
stake. It is easy to learn
and introduces players to the basic strokes and to the sequence of play
and layout of the court. We
recomend this game to beginners.
The
game most played at Fearrington, and at most croquet clubs in this
country, is SIX WICKET
or AMERICAN RULES CROQUET.
This game involves lots of strategy and can be played as a
competitive sport. It is
the game that we teach to newcomers wanting to go beyond golf croquet.
The
ASSOCIATION or INTERNATIONAL
RULES game uses the same six wicket court but very different
rules and is played in most other croquet playing countries.
It is occasionally played at Fearrington for the sake of variety.
Information
about croquet and a synopsis of the rules of all these games can be
found at the web site of the United States Croquet Association at www.croquetamerica.com.
While
white attire is the usual dress code for croquet play, is only used at
Fearrington for croquet parties or tournaments with players from other
clubs. WEAR WHAT YOU
WISH. If you want to learn
to play croquet, or need access to the court in the non-swimming season,
contact Allan Vesley at 545-9761 or Bob Glass at 542-1981.
