This elegant country inn is for special occasions. Forrest and I
celebrated our 36th wedding aaniversary at Fearrington House, a
North Carolina landmark descending from a two century old farm. We
went early to have time to enjoy the wonderful gardens. Even the
drive into Fearrington Center is a visual treat. My eyes always
immediately go to the black and white striped Belted Galloway cows
grazing in the meadow. The gardens meander around the Inn and among
many interesting shops.
The restaurant ambiance is equally delightful, and the service is
first rate. As a special anniversary treat, Forrest had arranged for
a chilled bottle of Veuve Clicquot to await our arrival. This was
perfect with the Jumbo Lump Crab Salad with Chatham County
Pickled Onions over Fried Green Tomatoes that I had chosen as
appetizer. It was equally good with Forrest's Slow Poached
Lobster Tail on Saffron Risotto.
My entree, Sliced Veal Strip with a Hickory SMoked Blackberry
Glaze and Goat Chees Crushed Potatoes, was delicious. Forrest raved
about his Hoison-Sesame Seed Barbequed Rack of Lamb with Sage
Gnocchi in a Vidalia Cup over a Pepsi-Cola Reduction. Despite
the elegant surroundings, he picked his ribs up to get every bite.
For dessert we shared a Warm Peach Strudel served with Butter
Pecan Ice Cream and Caramel Pecan Sauce... TO DIE FOR!
The warm Fearrington House staff sent us home well satisfied with
a parting gift of the beautiful flowers, cut fresh from their
garden, that had decorated our table.
