NEWS FROM THE SWIM & CROQUET CLUB

GREETINGS FROM PRESIDENT BILL STEMPFLE

A special welcome to all Swim and Croquet members for a new summer season. Carolina Pool Management and your Swim and Croquet Board have been doing an outstanding job in preparing the facility for all of us to enjoy. We are proud of our beautiful club and know that all of you will enjoy the pool and all activities planned for the summer.

The Swim and Croquet Board consists of nine members. They are as follows: Bill Stempfle, President, Ruth Nicholson, Secretary, Bruce Birch, Treasurer, Dave Hubby, Treasurer, Dave Chapman, Grounds, Phil Smith, Operations, Anne Williamson, Social and Jean Green, Membership and Social. All board members serve as the management team for the pool and appreciate your helpful suggestions for the improvement of our facility. Please do not hesitate to contact a board member if you have a question or a suggestion.

Our guidelines are few but we must follow them so that our pool is enjoyed by everyone. The following is expected:

a. Please remember that your membership badge is your identification. Our pool attendant will ask to see it each time you enter the pool.

b. Family Swim and Croquet members with young children who reside in Fearrington are welcome to enjoy the pool during the hours the pool is open including Moonlight Swim. We ask that the directions of the pool attendant be followed. Youngsters in diapers or swimmers must swim in the kiddie pool. Children who are potty trained may swim in the big pool. In both cases the parent must supervise. Because this is a facility for all to enjoy, we request that unnecessary screaming or jumping and  splashing in the pool be limited.

c. House guests (overnight visitors) of Fearrington pool members are welcome. Please accompany your guests to the pool each time they visit and, of course, sign them in our guest book along with your name.

d. Our pool is supervised by hired pool attendants and all members of the Swim and Croquet Board. Please be respectful to any of our supervisors if a question or concern arises. We are happy to assist you in everyway possible.

LET’S PLAY CROQUET!

All members are invited to play a game of croquet on the newly refurbished croquet lawn. Current players of any level are reminded that we have scheduled open session on Monday and Thursday at 4:00 p.m. It is an opportunity for newer players to find others and engage in a friendly game.
‘
If you have not played croquet before, contact Allan Vesley at 545-9761 or av57@cornell.edu  to schedule a private introduction to the game.

Don’t forget that our Croquet Party is scheduled for September 14 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. White attire is required and ladies don’t forget your hats! Enjoy an afternoon of croquet and refreshments on the lawn.

OPERATIONS

Have you noticed the new windows in the cabana? The doors which were in poor condition have been replaced. We now have new doors with clear glass that slide easily!. The four back windows have also been replaced. They now open providing much improved cross ventilation in this area. Members can enjoy ping pong or perhaps a place to sit out of the sunshine in greater comfort.

We are working on acquiring new lawn equipment such as shuffle board, horseshoes and ping pong paddles. They will be available soon. Members can check them out at the pool desk.

LANDSCAPING

We certainly hope that you have noticed our beautiful plantings. The flowers, shrubs and trees serve to keep our pool the attractive place that we enjoy. Considerable planning and time is invested in monitoring the care of the flower beds, the fertilizing and cutting of the grass and mulching the beds. We appreciate the effort of our team in keeping the exterior looking beautiful.

VOLUNTEERS

The Swim and Croquet Board wishes to extend thanks and express their appreciation to all members who volunteer their help for pool events. We could not do it without you and truly value your time and effort devoted to making the Fearrington pool a happy, safe and enjoyable place to be in the summer. OUR SINCERE THANKS!

HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME AT THE POOL!
